Neuchwainstein Castle Tour
This winter my fiancé and I took a trip to Munich, one of the experiences was a VIP all-inclusive tour to Neuchwainstein and Linderhof. I cannot recommend this tour enough, the bus was comfortable and spacious, our group was probably only 20 people, the regular busses held closer to 50 so it was a nice family like group.
Our driver made coffee and tea at every stop, and there were snacks available throughout the whole day on the bus. Our tour guide was INCREDIBLE, she gave us the entire history of the castles on the drive to the castles and on the way home she gave us the history of Germany under Hitler's reign. She was passionate and knowledgeable and just lovely.
We met at the meeting spot in the center of Munich, at 8:30am and left as soon as everyone was there since there were many busses going on tours and it's better to be one of the first ones there for earlier entrance times. Linderhof was the first castle we visited, it was a 20-minute drive to the castle, a 5 minute walk to the ticket office and a 7 minute walk from there to the castle. The walk to the castle was beautiful, we went at the end of December so there was snow on the ground, a romantic dream come true. The tour of the inside of the castle was 20 minutes, there are no pictures of videos inside the castle. My fiancé was appalled by this but I think it just encourages people to experience it for themselves.
After the tour we had time to get some shopping done and grab a beer and a glass of champagne for me. There is a little cafe with food options if you're hungry at this point. We did our shopping for both castles here and we were glad we did, the shops at Neuchwainstein were more expensive and the selection was not as vast.
From here we continued our journey to Neuchwainstein, it was an hour and a half drive but with our guide it didn't feel that long and it wasn't windy mountain roads. The landscape was beautiful and you get to drive through some charming towns, including one with Grimms fairytales painted on the buildings. Super cute! We made it to the castle and had plenty of time for lunch before our designated tour time. Since it was winter the main restaurants were closed so it was slim pickins' for food but we got a pretzel, leberkassemmel, and of course more beer! There are many ways up to the castle, a 20-minute walk, a horse drawn carriage or a bus shuttle for 3.50 euros. We chose the bus option, luckily Mary's bridge was open so we were able to stop there for pictures. I don't have a fear of heights but the bridge was intense! I barely stopped out on it and took my coupe pictures from the viewpoint (It's the view you always see when you look up the castle so I had no choice). After the bridge we walked up to the castle and had our tour, again no pictures, but we enjoyed it. It was beautiful and a learning experience. The Linderhof castle was way more extravagant but both were absolutely worth visiting.
After our tour we made it back to the bus and started our journey back to Munich. It was a two hour bus ride home and I think mostly everyone fell asleep.
I have copied the link below for the VIP tour, purchased through Viator. If the link doesn't work for some reason reach out or just search Neuchwainstein Castle and Linderhof VIP All-Inc tour from Munich. Having the tour booked just made the whole day so much easier, we didn't have to navigate the long drive up there, we didn't have to purchase the castle tickets, coffee, tea and snacks were provided, we were able to ask our guide any questions we had, and we learned all the history along the way! Worth every penny.
Let me know if you have a good experience or have any questions! Thanks for reading.
